Communicating with Your Massage Therapist

Massage has a long history in cultures all around the world. For some, massage is a luxury. But, massage has a plethora of health benefits and can be used to help sore muscles and tired bodies. However, one of the most important parts of receiving a massage is communicating with your massage therapist. They are trained to identify the correct treatments, style and pressure of the massage so it’s tailored to your body’s needs.

Here are a few things to consider when communicating with your massage therapist.

Medical History  

You don’t need to divulge in your entire medical history but it’s important to mention if anything is bothering you, any unusually sore spots, prior injuries, etc. This can help the massage therapist be more aware of your conditions so they don’t hurt you or can pay attention to the spots that need it most.

Speak Up

If the massage therapist is applying too much or not enough pressure, it’s okay to say something! The massage therapist is here to help loosen your muscles and/or unwind. They want to give you a great massage experience so it’s crucial to speak up if you need something to help with your comfort.

It’s Okay to Talk

Have questions? Just want to chat about your day? It’s okay to talk during your session! Some opt for silence while others want to talk a little more. It’s okay to ask your massage therapist questions about your treatment during the session.
